As the Harvey storm continues to pound Houston and much of the Gulf Coast with record-setting rainfall and destruction, it’s hard for people of the region to have much hope.
But among the devastation, the storm has brought out the best people among us— heroic first responders and civilians alike, doing all they can to help those in need.
Joel Osteen is one of those people. He’s the Senior Pastor at the Lakewood megachurch in Houston, situated right in Harvey’s path. Osteen, however, took some heat for not initially opening his church to flood victims, so he felt compelled to go even further out of his way to make things right.
And make things right is exactly what Osteen did when he made this big announcement via Twitter overnight:
OK, this is seriously awesome.
Osteen published The Power of I Am in 2015, and according to the book’s synopsis, “readers will stop criticizing themselves and instead discover their inner strengths, natural talents, and unique abilities that will make them prosper with self-assurance.”
Can you say, “perfect gift?!”
These books, expected to be distributed to local shelters over the next two days, will give displaced Houstonians the confidence and strength they need to get their lives back after this tragedy, and that is exactly what they need right now.
Heroes like Osteen don’t come around often, so it’s important we recognize them when they do.
